Weird Thief Gets Stuck Under Trash Bin

DILLON, S.C. (July 31) - A suspected weird thief trying to steal $10 worth of copper got himself into a stinky situation when he was trapped under a trash bin at a county landfill for 12 hours, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies said weird thief Gibson Cook, 56, broke into the landfill, then got stuck as he tried to crawl under the large container. Landfill workers found him about 12 hours later with his legs sticking out from under the bin. Emergency workers had to inflate air bags so they could lift the bin to free him.

Weird Cook was charged with trespassing and petit larceny, deputy Wayne Kirby said. He was waiting for a bond hearing and it was unclear if he had an attorney.

This weird piece of news may not go down well in a largely monogamous nation like India, but new weird research suggests that a weird men who marry more than once tend to outlive their single-spouse counterparts, reports newscientist.com. (really weird)

In defence it cites findings from a study by Virpi Lummaa, an ecologist at the University of Sheffield, UK, that says weird men aged over 60 from 140 countries that practiced polygamy lived on an average 12 per cent longer than monogamous men. Lummaa's weird findings were presented last week at the International Society for Behavioural Ecology's annual weird meeting in New York.

However, the weird study is not meant to be a validation of polygamy as much as it set out to answer the question why men, and women, live so long.

With women it has long been considered to be a result of the grandmother effect, which makes sense if one considers that unlike most mammals women live long past menopause. Conventional weird wisdom has it that spoiling grandchildren, as we know it in India, is one of the contributory factors to female longevity. Every decade since menopause gives the woman two more grandchildren to dote on. For the male of the species, however, it seems that longevity is not about emotion but physiology, since unlike the distaff side they can reproduce well into their 60s, 70s and, thanks to the little blue weird pill, even into their 80s now. There is ample evidence that the phrase “jump the shark” – which emerged from a dorm-room discussion of a ridiculous episode of “Happy Days”, a 1980’s TV show – has gone mainstream. Many columnists now invoke this phrase, casually, to describe things that they perceive as being past their prime. Last week, the Motley Fool website used this phrase to speculate that the Berkshire Hathaway annual general meeting might have lost its mojo – much the way that Fonzie, the leather-jacketed lothario on the “Happy Days” show, did when he water-skied over a shark.

In recent weeks, a similarly ridiculous episode from the popular movie “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” has produced a similar term – “nuked the fridge” – that is gaining much attention online. In “Indiana Jones …”, the hero’s improbable achievement was to survive a nuclear blast by hiding in a refrigerator. Hence, to “nuke the fridge” means to introduce a wildly implausible element to a once-respected frachise, or more generally to signal the abandonment of past standards of quality.

Newsweek has already chronicled the new phrase, describing it as a synonym for “movie-franchise meltdowns.” The Urban Dictionary website has already taken note of it and may include it in their database shortly! What’s more, there are already websites nukedthefridge.com and nukingthefridge.com that hope to take advantage of the burst of notoriety; one website has even quotes that the “nuked the fridge” phrase is actually a term used by movie fans and critics alike to denote a point in which a film/TV program veers off into realm of ridicule and stupidity.

What it means to us? This means that it could be legal for your employer to fire you over your political leanings. And that’s not the only area. In a piece for Yahoo! HotJobs, Larry Buhl writes about five key areas where a company may scrutinize. According to Buhl, they are:

Smoking, drinking, and overeating: Due to the cost of health insurance, more and more employers view “unhealthy” habits as a threat to their bottom line.
Risky behavior: Likewise, a company might see your bungee jumping hobby as a liability.
Speech: Will your employer consider your blogging to be destructive griping?
Romantic relationships: Dating someone at a competitor’s company has landed employees in hot water. And some employers might take issue with unmarried coupling or even same-sex relationships (federal law doesn’t protect employees from discrimination based on real or perceived sexual orientation).
Political activity: Volunteering for Obama could be trouble if you have a pro-McCain boss, and vice versa.

There have been plenty thefts at / near the ATM machines. The thieves smartly "fool" their victims into handing over their ATM card and PIN number to them...

HOW this happens, you might wonder...

I have finally found the modus operandi used by many of these ATM thieves... Check it out. It will blow your mind too...

	Step 1: An individual who apparently is making a bank transaction at the ATM machine.
	Step 2: What he really is doing is placing a trap in the ATM machine to “capture” the next user card.
	Step 3: Altering the ATMs is a risky business, these individuals work in teams. The lookout warns of any possible eye witnesses / or of the next potential victim.
	Step 4: Here we see the next client using the ATM, after the trap has been set. He inserts his card and begins his transaction. WOW! The victim fell in their trap... CHECK IT OUT HOW...





	Finally, BE CAREFUL while accessing ATM machines. PRECAUTION is better than Cure... SPREAD the word. STOP ATM thefts.

Sikhs Strike Back - Intelligently!!!

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Sikhs had to leave Italy
Naturally there was a big uproar from the Sikh community.So the Pope made a deal
He would have a religious debate with a member of the Sikh community
If the Sikh won, the Sikhs could stay. If the Pope won, the Sikhs would leave.

The Sikhs realized that they had no choice. So they picked a middle-aged man named Harbinder Singh to represent them. Harbinder asked for one additional condition to the debate.
To make it more interesting, neither side would be allowed to talk. The Pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Harbinder Singh and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute.
Then the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers.
Harbinder looked back at him and raised one finger.
The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Harbinder pointed to the ground where he sat.
The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine.
Harbinder pulled out an apple.

The Pope stood up and said, "I give up. This man is too good. The Sikhs can stay."

An hour later, the cardinals were gathered around the Pope asking him what had happened.
The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the holy trinity.
He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still One God common to both our religions.
Then, I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us.

But it beat heavyweights including Walsh's BA and Branson's Virgin Atlantic along with 64 others in the Which? poll for best experience and value for money. It was also voted best for short-haul.

Delighted boss David Skillicorn said: “We're just little Palmair with a little Boeing 737. Those who want more leg room get it and families who want to sit together can. Other airlines charge for a service like this but not us. “We've even taken out seats to give the 130 passengers more leg room.” Founded 51 years ago and employing 50 staff, Palmair flies to 14 European destinations including Spain, Tenerife, Portugal, Corfu and Croatia. Worker Teresia Rossello greets every passenger and then waves them off at Bournemouth Airport in Dorset. There are no night flights as they are considered antisocial. A Missouri car dealer said on Thursday sales have soared at his auto and truck business since launching a promotion this week that promises buyers a free handgun or a $250 gas card with every purchase.

Max Motors, a small Butler, Missouri dealership that has as its logo a grimacing cowboy wielding a pistol, has sold more than 30 cars and trucks in the last three days, far more than its normal volume. And owner Mark Muller credits his decision to start offering buyers their choice of a $250 gas card or a $250 credit at a gun shop.

"This thing has taken off. Sales have quadrupled," said Muller. The store sells both used and new vehicles including General Motors and Ford products.

Every buyer so far "except one guy from Canada and one old guy" has elected to take the gun, Muller said. Muller recommends his customers select a Kel-Tec .380 pistol.

First... They gave increments to ALL of its employees (excluding senior managers and above) ranging from 0% to 6%... IT'S REALLY A SHAME!

Second... Now the IFM (Internal Facilities Management) department within Capgemini Mumbai has become notorious for its indifference to the problems faced by employees...

The problems have been quite uncommon, yet persistent. Capgemini India has been expanding at a furious speed, however, IGNORING safety & comfort of its workforce.

None of the offices of Capgemini India are fire-safe! These offices are extremely congested and prone to fire at any moment. And God forbids, if there is a fire outbreak, the employees would DIE inside the office due to suffocation and choking. There are no proper fire exits and infrastructure is pathetic!!

Now there have been THEFTS reported in Mumbai offices of Capgemini. I am not joking... Find below the recent mail being circulated among the employees complaining to the IFM to improve security arrangements and to ensure that belongings of the employees are safe…

The current security arrangements are so pathetic that the IFM can't even trace who is stealing valuables from employee's desks!! They have installed video cameras, but only at entry & exits!!! What nonsense... How can someone trace who is carrying what inside their bags... they must have installed security cameras inside the office, at various locations, also!!

When NASA began launching astronauts into space, they found out that the astronauts' pens wouldn't work at zero gravity (ink wouldn't flow down to the writing surface). It took them one decade and $12 million to solve this problem. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on practically any surface including crystal, and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.

And what did the Russians do? The Russians used a pencil.

One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management techniques was the case of the empty soap box, which occurred in one of Japan's biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soap box that was empty. Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soap box went through the assembly line empty. Management asked its engineers to solve the problem. Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soap boxes that passed through the line, to make sure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent whoopee amount of time and money to do so.

But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into the complications of X-rays, etc. but instead came out with another solution. He bought a strong industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, and as each soap box passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.

A 50 feet long trailer having 48" wheels got stuck while entering a midtown tunnel in New York because it was approximately 2.5 feet taller than the height of the tunnel. The fire department and the state department of transportation spent the whole day searching for a solution, to no avail.

Then a child, aged about 9 years, asked his father, "Why can't they take out the air from the tyre tubes? The height will automatically come down.

India Shining in the US - Hall of Shame!!!

On Monday, the Indian government itself consecrated the oft-circulated fiction as fact in Parliament, possibly laying itself open to a breach of privilege. By relaying to Rajya Sabha members, a host of unsubstantiated and inflated figures about Indian professionals in US, the government also made a laughing stock of itself.

The figures provided by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Purandeshwari, included claims that 38 per cent of doctors in US are Indians, as are 36 per cent of NASA scientists and 34 per cent of Microsoft employees.

There is no survey that establishes these numbers, and absent a government clarification, it appears that the figures come from a shop-worn Internet chain mail that has been in circulation for many years. Attempts by this correspondent over the years to authenticate the figures have shown that it is exaggerated, and even false. Both Microsoft and NASA say they don't keep an ethnic headcount. While they acknowledge that a large number of their employees are of Indian origin, it is hardly in the 30-35 per cent range.

Some of the popular myths…

In a 2003 interview with this correspondent, Microsoft chief Bill Gates guessed that the number of Indians in the engineering sections of the company was perhaps in the region of 20 per cent, but he thought the overall figure was not true.
NASA workers say the number of Indians in the organization is in the region of 4-5 per cent, but the 36 per cent figure is pure fiction.
The number of physicians of Indian-origin in the US is a little easier to estimate. The Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has 42,000 members, in addition to around 15,000 medical students and residents.
There were an estimated 850,000 doctors in the US in 2004. So, conflating the figures, no more than ten per cent of the physicians in US maybe of Indian-origin – and that includes Indian-Americans – assuming not everyone is registered with AAPI.

These numbers in themselves are remarkable considering Indians constitute less than one per cent of the US population. But in its enthusiasm to spin the image of the successful global Indian to its advantage, the government appears to have milked a long-discredited spam - an effort seen by some readers as the work of a lazy bureaucrat and an inept minister.

"This minister (D. Purandeshwari) should be held accountable for misleading the members of parliament and the citizens of India. This just shows how illiterate and mentally defunct the current Indian govt. is," wrote Anand from Melbourne. Purandeshwari is not the first minister to use the dubious figures in a system where politicians depend heavily on their bureaucrats to furnish facts, figures, and speeches. Former home minister L.K.Advani used the same figures in a speech some years back on a visit to Washington DC.

Very funny story of hat-seller & monkeys (modern version)

It's an old story that we read in Class 3 but with a new ending. I trust you will like it.

A haryanavi (i.e. Sardarji) hat-seller who was passing by a forest decided to take a nap under one of the trees, so he left his whole basket of hats by the side. A few hours later, he woke up and realized that all his hats were gone.

He looked up and to his surprise, the tree was full of monkeys and they had taken all his hats. The jaat sits down and thinks of how he can get the hats down. While thinking he started to scratch his head. The next moment, the monkeys were doing the same. Next, he took down his own hat, the monkeys did exactly the same. An idea came to him, he took his hat and threw it on the floor and the monkeys did that too. So he finally managed to get all his hats back.

Fifty years later, his grandson, Sukhwinder, also became a hat-seller and had heard this monkey story from his grandfather. One day, just like his grandfather, he passed by the same forest. It was very hot, and he took a nap under the same tree and left the hats on the floor.

He woke up and realized that all his hats were taken by the monkeys on the tree. He remembered his grandfather’s words, started scratching his head and the monkeys followed. He took down his hat and fanned himself and again the monkeys followed. Now, very convinced of his grandfather's idea, Sukhwinder threw his hat on the floor but to his surprise, the monkeys still held on to all the hats.

On Friday, Feb 1, when Microsoft announced that it is going to buy the troubled Yahoo! Group for an estimated price of $44.6 billion, all hell broke loose. Yahoo said in a statement that its board would evaluate the proposal "carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo's strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders."

Undoubtedly this consolidation is aimed at taking their biggest rival, Google Inc., head on. I don’t want to discuss what strategy Yahoo & Microsoft has in mind, but I have noticed one strange this happening with Yahoo Mail, which is, in my opinion, very unprofessional.

I have Google AdSense account and I have subscribed to its daily email reports, using my Yahoo mail account. Till January 28, everything was quite fine, as I used to receive daily email reports of my AdSense earnings. However, since January 29, all Google AdSense mails were being sent to JUNK folder in Yahoo mail. I noticed this of late, and then investigated this matter to the best I can. I found that a little before the Microsoft – Yahoo consolidation news broke out, Yahoo has taken this very unprofessional approach to mark all mails related to (any) Google product as SPAM. This includes Google AdSense reports and YouTube alerts among others.

This is extremely amusing yet unprofessional on Yahoo’s front… Hats off to Google, which has terrified the two (so called) WWW biggies in a very short span of time. Keep it up Google!!

The 19-year-old son of slain former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto zoomed into focus following his mother’s assassination on December 27 and his appointment as the new chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party. Though his father Asif Ali Zardari, who is co-chairman of the PPP, has admitted that his son has an account on Facebook, the quotes attributed to Bilawal by media organisations are the handiwork of pranksters.

The latest message doing the rounds, which “Bilawal” supposedly posted on Monday, reads: “I’m merely a student. I do things that students do — like make mistakes, eat junk food, watch Buffy but most importantly of all... learn. “My time to lead will come but for now, I’m the one asking questions, not the one answering them.”

The fake messages also referred to the dangers to Bilawal and his “political beliefs”. During her lifetime, Bhutto guarded her children’s privacy intensely. In the press conference following Bilawal’s appointment as heir to the Bhutto legacy, his father did not allow journalists to address questions to his son. “He is of a tender age,” he told them.

The lack of information has seen journalists scouring the internet to enrich the scant portrait of the Bhutto successor and falling prey to the tricks of the pranksters who put up fake profiles of Bilawal on sites like Facebook.

Shocked Mumbai BPOs start security overhaul

Within 24 hours of Mumbai Mirror's expose on BPOs' callous approach to their employees' safety, call centres across Mumbai on Wednesday began overhauling their transport departments, mainly focusing on checks employed while hiring drivers for home-drops.

Intelenet, one of the two BPOs where Mirror's editor, investigations, Bhupen Patel, got a job as a driver without undergoing any screening, is putting all its drivers through fresh checks and is considering providing them tamper-proof identity cards.The BPO also sent an email to all its employees on Wednesday reassuring them that all measures are being taken to safeguard their security.

Mukesh Ambani's new residence - a 27-storey glass-fronted building will have parking for 168 cars, three helipads, a theatre and 600 staffers for its upkeep. Mukesh Ambani's new residence being constructed in Mumbai's Altamount Road is the stuff myths are made of. Named after the mythical island Antilia, the house-in-the- making will be completed by next year. It is being built on a 4,532 sq metre plot that was acquired by Ambani in 2002.

27 FLOORS:

According to the plan, the house will rise to a height of 173.12 meters, equivalent to that of a regular 60-storeyed residential building . However, Antilia will have only 27 storeys in all.

SIX FLOORS FOR PARKING:

The first six floors will be reserved for parking alone, and that too for cars belonging only to Mukesh's family. Space for a total of 168 imported cars has been earmarked here.

ENTERTAINMENT FLOOR:

The eighth floor will have an entertainment centre comprising a mini-theatre.

BALCONIES WITH GARDENS:

The rooftop of the mini-theatre will serve as a garden, and immediately above that, three more balconies with terrace gardens.

HEALTH FLOORS:

While the ninth floor will have a 'refuge' floor - meant to be used for rescue in emergencies - two floors above that will be set aside for health. It will have facilities for athletics and a swimming pool, while the other will have a health club.

FOR GUESTS:

There will be a two-storeyed glass-fronted apartment for the Ambani family's guests above the health floors. FAMILY: The four floors at the top, that will provide a view of the Arabian Sea and a superb view of the city's skyline, will be for Mukesh, his wife Neeta, their three kids and Mukesh's mother Kokilaben .

AIR SPACE FLOOR:

Two floors above the family's residence will be set aside as maintenance areas, and on top of that will be an 'air space floor,' which will act as a control room for helicopters landing on the helipad above. There will be three helipads there.
