How a seven-year-old boy underwent 25 operations

Connor has had 15 cardiac operations and nine other procedures including investigative surgery, scans, oxygen therapy and kidney dialysis


NEWCASTLE

Eight days old: Open heart surgery to perform a procedure to relieve the symptoms of his heart defect.

12 months: Feeding tube put in stomach.

18 months: More open heart surgery. As children grow the arteries increase in size and this allows surgeons to operate with greater ease for the second procedure.

19 months: Rushed back into hospital after lung collapses.

20 months: Readmitted to have cysts removed from his chest scar following the cardiac surgery.

Three years old: Third corrective surgery procedure on one of his heart chambers. He goes into multiple organ failure and is given the last rites on three separate occasions as he his condition became critical.

Three years and three months: Has to have a second tracheotomy after collapsing during recovery.

Four years old: Connor was given a heart transplant in a 10-hour operation in Newcastle and spend three months in intensive care.

Connor has had 15 cardiac operations and nine other procedures including investigative surgery, scans, oxygen therapy and kidney dialysis. His latest operation was not cardiac related, his doctors told his mother they could not perform the surgery until his heart was suitably recovered.
